Boston Wedding DJs - Frequently Asked Questions

What makes you different from your competitors?
One thing that sets our Boston DJs apart from our competition is that we’d rather hear about you, than tell you about us. Most companies are quick to explain what they will do at your wedding,– how they will introduce your wedding party, how they will help arrange the timing, and why they are the best choice for your reception. Our question is how can our Boston wedding company do those things well unless they have taken the time to learn about you and to understand what YOU envision as your dream wedding?

How long will you hold our date for us?
TSG Weddings Boston Wedding DJs will hold your date for a two week grace period after our initial meeting, to give you stress-free time to decide whether you are going to go with TSG. Beware that some Boston DJs may use tactics to try to get you to commit to them at your first meeting, offering a special sale that ends that day, or claiming that another couple is meeting with them for the same day. At TSG Weddings, our Boston DJs know you’re already have enough on your shoulders planning a wedding. The whole purpose of a wedding entertainment company is to make your lives easier, not harder.

Can we select the DJ for our wedding?
When you first contact TSG Weddings, our wedding experts will take the time to go over all of the details for your dream wedding reception. Once we have all of the details, we will then let you know the availability of our wedding DJ’s and advise you on who we think would be the best fit for your event based on your personality and preferences. Often, the first DJ you speak with is not the person who will be your DJ on your wedding day. You will have the option of interviewing our Boston DJs to find one that you will feel comfortable with. That DJ’s name will also be specified on your contract.

Do you provide a written agreement?
Absolutely! A written legal TSG Weddings contract secures the DJ’s obligation to the client and lists exactly what is required and expected for the event’s success. It will explain the entertainment setup requirements and other factors related the company’s performance. This document will also clearly state the fee structure for payment of the services provided, the name of the entertainer, and any additional services being provided by the company.

Can we visit you at a performance?
Unfortunately not. We expect that you might not appreciate the DJ inviting prospective clients to your wedding to see him in action. To protect our clients’ privacy, we do not offer performance visits.

How will TSG Weddings staff dress for my wedding?
Our Boston Wedding DJs are both traditional and classy. Please tell us whether you would prefer us to wear a classic black suit or a more formal black tuxedo.

Will you act as the MC and make all of the announcements?
Yes! All of our Boston DJs are trained to handle all the announcements necessary to keep your event flowing and get your guests onto the dance floor. We are happy to be as vocal – or as laid back as you would like. Our entertainers are capable of customizing their MC’ing to match your personal wishes – everything from classy and elegant to energetic and wild.

What type of music does TSG Weddings have in their collection?
Our music library is massive and spans across just about every decade, genre, and nationality. Through weekly updates we are able to provide the most up-to-date songs that you and your guests want to hear to make your wedding reception great. (And if by rare chance we don’t already have a song you are looking for – we promise to go out and buy it!)

Can we tell the DJ what music to play and what music not to play?
Of course! No matter what your individual taste in music, we want to make sure that we make the day special with music that you, your family, and your friends will really enjoy. Most of the time, the bride and groom entrust our skilled entertainment staff to pick songs that we feel will make your event fun, and that will get people dancing with us on the dance floor. It is common nowadays for clients to submit a “Do Not Play” list instead of a “Play” list. Whatever type of list you provide us with, we promise to always honor your music preferences.

We are having trouble thinking of songs to use for all of the formal dances – can you give us some suggestions?
We have developed a really great list of song ideas which can be downloaded from our Boston Wedding DJ website! Go to http://www.tsgweddings.com/downloads/TSG-Song-Choices.pdf (case sensitive web address)

Do you take requests from our guests?
We are happy to do so, but our Boston Wedding DJs will only choose to play the songs that fit in with the rest of your musical preferences.

Will there be music for my older relatives to dance to?
As entertainers, it is our job to make sure that all of your guests not only feel welcome at the event, but also feel like they are part of it. We acknowledge and cater to all of the different age groups represented at your reception without taking away from the energy level of the dancing throughout the night. For instance, older relatives generally appreciate a few slow songs that they recognize and can dance to. TSG Weddings would accommodate them by playing a few songs during the first course, and main course (anything from Barry Manilow, to Louis Armstrong, to the Righteous Brothers, to Nat “King” Cole, to Frank Sinatra, to Johnny Mathis, to any other request you may have).

What if one of my family members or friends wants to make a toast or talk on the microphone?
We are happy to let as many people speak, give toasts, or tell funny stories as you would like. However, in order to save you and your future spouse from any unwanted embarrassment, we ask that you let us know ahead of time who will be speaking. We realize that your wedding reception is a fantastic celebration for everyone in attendance, and we also realize that people like to celebrate with a few glasses of wine or an occasional cocktail. Therefore, if someone comes over and asks to speak on the microphone, and they are not on our list of speakers pre-approved by you, we will check with either the bride or groom for the thumbs up or thumbs down.

What is included in the cost of my event?
Our basic Wedding DJ entertainment packages include a top-of-the-line professional sound system, set up and break down of the equipment, reception planning assistance, online planning tools, unlimited phone calls and emails to answer your questions, and travel within 60 miles of Peabody, MA.

Have you played at our venue before?
It’s nearly impossible for every Boston DJ to have played at every Boston wedding venue. If we haven’t had the pleasure of playing at your venue – we will spend time studying the room layout and communicating with the onsite staff to make sure the event goes absolutely perfect from the minute we load in our equipment to the last second of your last dance.

Can we meet with TSG Weddings to go over all the details for the wedding?
Yes! Our office will contact you 4 to 5 weeks prior to your wedding day to set up an in-person meeting or conference call (in case your schedule doesn’t allow you to meet with us in person). During the meeting, we will go over the event timeline, formalities, music choices, and all other specific details that will personalize your wedding experience.

When do we need to submit our music requests and event details?
We request that you have completed and sent all of your event information to us by three weeks prior to your wedding day. Up to the three-week-out deadline, you can visit our online client area as often as you would like to make changes to your information and save your information right online.

What does TSG Weddings require for set-up at my ceremony or reception site?
Believe it or not, our Wedding DJs needs are pretty basic. We simply need a single 6-foot or 8-foot table with linens that match the rest of the room’s décor. Our power requirements are:
(one) 20 amp outlet for Sound only;
(two) 20 amp outlets for Sound and Basic Dance floor Lighting;
(four) 20 amp outlets for Sound, Dance floor Lighting, and Full Room Uplighting.

Will TSG Weddings DJs need a meal and do they take breaks?
Absolutely not, and absolutely not! We understand that some vendors require that you provide them with a meal during the event, but we do not. We believe that one of the reasons for hiring a disc jockey over a live band is that there is never any downtime or a “break” in the music.

How much of a deposit is required to secure our date?
TSG Weddings requires a 30% deposit on our services to secure your wedding DJ. This is for both your protection and ours.

When will TSG Weddings arrive to begin setting up?
Generally speaking, TSG Weddings staff will arrive at your location to begin setting up one to three hours prior to the beginning of the event. The exact set-up time will depend on what additional services you have requested (Such as photo booth and novelties, dance floor lighting, uplighting, and LCD TV’s for live video or slide shows). Your TSG Weddings representative will be happy to give you a more precise arrival time based on the package you have selected.

Our reception site requires outside vendors to be insured. Are you insured? And, how can we show this to them?
TSG Weddings has a one million dollar commercial liability policy. We are happy to email, fax, or U.S. mail a copy of our certificate to whoever needs verification.

What if we need to reach you the day of the wedding?
Every TSG Weddings client is given our office cell phone number where you can contact us 24 hours a day. In addition, the week of your event you will also receive the personal cell phone number for your Wedding DJ.

Will you bring backup equipment with you to my event?
Yes. We bring everything from back up powered speakers, laptops, audio mixers, wireless microphones, and every cable and connector we might ever need to keep all of our equipment running and sounding perfect for your reception.  We also bring a full back up music library on CD.

When is our entertainment balance due, and should we tip our DJ?
Your entertainment balance is due and must be received no later than 10 business days prior to your event, and can be in the form of personal or certified check, money order, or cash. Unfortunately, we do not accept credit cards for the payment of balances. Tipping TSG Weddings entertainment staff is never necessary, but is always appreciated if you feel that they exceeded your expectations.
